- HISTORY OF THE HSCHOOL :
The school has long history from its starting. It was started its happy journey in 1946 as a primary school with 2-4 students. At first it was a bamboo made with straw roof shaded cottage. Now days it has got its actual shape and appearance.
At that time this was the only school in the block area which bring the light of the education for the community. The school brings the hopes for the hopeless poor people, where there was very few people were literate or read and write something. People were living under poverty line and completely aware about the need for Children education. In this situation this school had started to drive to its infinite destination. On the way of this school’s, the contribution of some people is unforgettable and would not complete without mentioning them. They were Lt. jyotipal Barua first teacher (1946) and Lt. Meghabarna Chakma teacher (1946) of this school, Lt.Satyapriya Chakma first student of this school’s, later he had appointed as a teacher into this school and the Village panchayat chairman Lt. Ranjit Saha, all of them had contributed themselves to the establishment of the school at different level at different time. They always wished the school success for life. Now it is the only higher secondary school within the block area. Currently it is running with 1200 students and 28+8 =36 teachers upper primary & primary all together and with others ministerial staffs in a three block buildings.
Location of the School :
Chawmanu H.S School is situated in the foot of the Longtharai hill and between two river Manu and Chawmanu that are covered with greeneries. Basically the name of this school and place derived from these two rivers. Most of the of its surrounding are hilly. It is almost 125 kms away from the capital city Agartala and 23 km away from Manu at the national highway No: 08 . The school was established by a few creative thinker people in the year 1946 with a view to spread the light of education among the local tribels and non tribels. After overcoming so many burden the school has reached its present state and is the main centre of literacy and education for the students of its surrounding area spreading over more than 25 Sq kms.
